JAKARTA – Instagram is reportedly often storing photo files and messages that users have deleted on the server. This became known to a security researcher after discovering a security bug at platform Instagram.
The security gap was first discovered, Saugat Pokharel after downloading his personal data from Instagram. For the finding of the bug, Saugat received a gift from Instagram of 6,000 US dollars or around Rp.89 million.
According to Pokharel, the company usually stores data that its users have deleted from the Instagram network system and cache. And the data can only be completely erased in 90 days from the system.

However, Instagram still stores this data for more than a year on the server. Even this data can still be downloaded using access from Instagram.
“Instagram didn’t delete my data even when I deleted it,” he told TechCrunch, Saturday, August 15th.
Pokharel reported the bug in October 2019 through the program bug bounty Instagram. According to Instagram, Bug the data storage has been improved, since the beginning of August.
“We have fixed the problem and see no evidence of abuse. We are grateful to the investigators for reporting this problem to us,” he continued.
The problem is almost the same as that which Twitter fixed last year, where users can access long-deleted direct messages. This includes messages sent to and from suspended and deactivated accounts.
